Jewish Studies

Rosh Pinah is a modern Orthodox, Zionist school.  Judaism and Israel are integral and rich parts of the School’s ethos and life at Rosh Pinah.  Jewish Studies permeates the daily experience of the pupils, starting with Tefillah in the morning, benching after lunch and a JS lesson three times a week.  Oneg Shabbat is celebrated every Friday in EYFS, KS1 and KS2.

The children engage in a formal curriculum that starts teaching pupils in Early Years the fundamental skills of Hebrew reading.  Developing script writing begins in KS1 and basic Chumash skills along with Rashi script in KS2.  The teaching always looks to engender a love of Judaism.

Throughout the year, pupils live the different Jewish festivals in fun and engaging ways with memorable experiences and interactive activities via the formal and informal curricula.  All staff, in the Jewish Studies and Secular Departments actively and positively engage with the Jewish dimension of the School.  Parental participation in the many events offered including Oneg Shabbat, Pesach Sedarim, the Chagigat Siddur and Chumash ceremonies, family competitions and educational events across the different year groups is high.

Many parents describe themselves as being part of the Rosh Pinah ‘Family’.  It is that warm, caring and nurturing atmosphere which permeates all of the Jewish experiences the pupils encounter during their time at Rosh Pinah.
